Science - Mr. Cox

Today the students recieved instructions and logins for Study Island.  This is a website paid for by the school to help students study.  I have posted a 30 question review similar to what students can expect to find on thier science test on Friday.  I have provided breif instructions for how the students can login below.  I hope to add a page to my science blog during Thanksgiving break (when I have some time) that will include a full walkthrough.

1. Go to http://www.studyisland.com/
2. The username is the student's first and last name (no spaces) followed by "@gms"
-example:  John Smith's username would be johnsmith@gms
3. The password is the student's Student ID#, without the leading zero
-example: ID# 0912345 would make the password 912345
4.  I have made an assignment titled "Test Review" - click on the assignment title
5.  Click "Start Studying"
6.  Email me at questionmrcox@gmail.com with a contact number to reach you if you have trouble

Science - Mr. Cox

Today the students were given a paper to complete in preparation for a project building a model of the Earth's layers. The paper (titled Model Earth Layers) is due on Thursday. That paper, along with their model will count as a test grade. The main part of the worksheet students should focus on is providing appropriate reasons for choosing each layers substitute (creativity is encouraged).

The students should also start preparing for the first test of the second nine weeks. This test will be given on Friday of this week. Look for a full review to be posted on the science blog Wednesday or early Thursday.

We began learning about parts of the ecosystem from Chapter 10 Section 1 of the science book. I recommend students reading it at home as well because there will be material from it on Friday's quiz. The students had a homework assignment to draw the levels of organization in an environment. They are to draw the diagram on page 273 of their book, nicely and in color. (I intentionally left the biosphere part out as it is not a 6th grade expectation.)

Tomorrow all students will be bringing home a letter with additional information to help them in science. All they need to do is get it signed by a parent/guardian to start the grading period off with a free 100!!!
